Materials

The Reproductive Health Materials Package was developed in South Africa to overcome a number of limitations related to the availability of materials in public sector clinics. Seed funding for the development of the project was provided by Pharmacare, Planned Parenthood, Reproductive Health Research Unit, and Aids Media Research Project. DFID and the Henry J. Kaiser Foundation are also funding certain sections of the materials.

The project partners reviewed a range of materials that had been produced nationally and internationally and developed a set of criteria for the production of an integrated and unified set of materials for use in clinics. Materials were extensively researched through literature reviews as well as qualitative workshops with health care providers and client groups. Module one of the Reproductive Health Materials is available and Module two is in development.

The materials incorporate consistent language style and graphic design with a question and answer format. The provision of a series of materials developed by a single producer allows for effective management of information over time. Changes in clinical protocols and information needs can regularly be incorporated into package revision.

The partners of this project are together the single producer and will keep all copyrights of the materials. The Reproductive Health Research Unit is the leading partner coordinating all activities.
