As the Institute's scope of work has diversified, the numbers of staff employed and trained has increased, and the energy and drive of the staff is palpable to all who visit the institute. The WRHI is headed by Helen Rees, who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has also been made an Honorary Professor in the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. A number of other WRHI staff are also at professorial level. Amongst the staff members are professionals consisting of clinicians, medical doctors, infectious disease specialists, researchers, statisticians, epidemiologists, pharmacologists and pharmacists as well as social scientists, historians and medical anthropologists.

Professor Helen Rees Executive Director Professor Rees is an Ad Hominen Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She received her Medical Degree and her Masters in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University and in 2002 became an alumni of Harvard Business School. Recently, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine awarded her the prestigious 2010 Heath Clarke Lectureship and appointed her as an Honorary Professor in 2009. More....

Dr Sinéad Delany-Moretlwe MBBCh DTM&H MSc Director, Research Dr Sinead Delany-Moretlwe is a Senior Director for Research at RHRU. She trained as a medical doctor at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. She obtained an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), followed by a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from the same institution. Professor Francois Venter Deputy Executive Director Professor Francois Venter is currently Deputy Executive Director and lecturer in the Department of Medicine, University of the Witwatersrand. He is the Head of Infectious Diseases at the Johannesburg Academic Hospital. Dr Venter is currently President of the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society, which has over 12 000 members throughout Africa.> More.... |

Dr Eugene Sickle Dr. Eugene Sickle graduated from the University of Cape Town with a doctoral degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Thereafter he worked in the United Kingdom for two years as a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow, before returning to South Africa where he took up a positions in academia at the University of Cape Town and the University of the Western Cape. After several years in academia he moved to the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit (RHRU) where he currently holds the position of Director – Strategy and Development. More.... |

Diau Daniel Mosia- BDT (Medunsa), MBA (Bond Univ.), Post- Grad Dip MHC (FS Univ.) Chief Operations Officer Dan Mosia is the Chief Operating Officer at Wits Health Consortium, responsible for the Institute’s strategic operational management. Dan has got vast experience in the Healthcare Industry, having worked both at private and non-governmental/academic sectors. In addition to his professional career, he is also both a crop and livestock farmer with great interest in the development of black commercial farmers. More.... |

Nolundi Mfecane Nolundi Mfecane is currently employed by the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit (RHRU) as the Director responsible for the North West Programmes (HIV Management Cluster). Nolundi believes that the most important asset for any organisational success is its human resource. She holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree, Higher Diploma in Education (HDE) and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) Degree from Rhodes University, Grahamstown. Dr. Regina Osih Director: Health Programmes Dr. Regina Osih is the Director for Health Programmes. This portfolio includes the management of various HIV-related treatment and prevention programmes, all focused on health systems strengthening. She is currently an infectious disease consultant at the Johannesburg Academic Hospital and participates in teaching for the infectious disease staff. In addition to being board-certified in Infectious Diseases, Dr. Osih also holds a Masters of Public Health in international health and infectious diseases from Johns Hopkins University. More.... |

Daphne Van Der Wind Daphne started at the RHRU in November 2008 and brought with her a wealth of experience in financial management and donor liaisons. Before joining the RHRU she worked extensively in the field of enterprise development and micro-finance, first at The Nations Trust Youth Enterprise Finance and later at Umsobomvu Youth Fund. She comes from a commercial banking background where she was exposed to a management trainee program and where she gained a lot of experience in business analysis. More.... |
