From the onset, WRHI has utilised the engagement of many strategic partnerships for various aspects of its ongoing work. This has led to many effective projects and funding engagements to enable a significant growth in the Institute's programme portfolio and the advisory roles it plays on a national and international platforms.

Our partners are listed as follows:

Altech
Altech is an investment holding company, involved in the telecommunications, multi-media and information technology industries, which employs over 5 000 employees in South Africa and abroad. As a leading South African multi-billion rand high-technology group, Altech is involved in the design, development and convergence of telecommunications equipment, multi-media systems and IT solutions.

Altron
Allied Electronics Corporation Limited (Altron) is invested in the telecommunications, multi-media, information technology and power electronics industries. The Altron Group embraces the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of South Africans through their corporate social investment and enterprise development initiatives.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, the focus is on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.

Center for HIV-AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI)
The Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology is a consortium of universities and academic medical centers established by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under Barton Haynes, MD, of Duke University. The Center's goal is to solve major problems in HIV vaccine development and design.



European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP)
EDCTP aims to accelerate the development of new or improved drugs, vaccines and microbicides against HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, with a focus on phase II and III clinical trials in sub-Saharan Africa.EDCTP supports multicentre projects which combine clinical trials, capacity building and networking.

Family Health International (FHI)
FHI’s programs address the holistic needs of people living with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other infectious and chronic diseases around the world, while FHI's research on family planning and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention, and other infectious diseases aims to improve public health worldwide.

Fogarty International Centre
The Fogarty International Center is dedicated to advancing the mission of the National Institutes of Health by supporting and facilitating global health research conducted by U.S. and international investigators, building partnerships between health research institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and training the next generation of scientists to address global health needs.

Health Systems Trust (HST)
International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM)
IPM is a non-profit product development partnership (PDP) established in 2002 to prevent HIV transmission by accelerating the development and availability of a safe and effective microbicide for use by women in developing countries.IPM is committed to providing women with an affordable and self-initiated HIV- prevention strategy.

MSD
MSD is a leading research-based pharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of innovative pharmaceutical products designed to save lives, improve human health and enhance quality of life.

MTN Foundation

National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. Helping to lead the way toward important medical discoveries that improve people’s health and save lives, NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases.

President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)
In 2003, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was launched to combat global HIV/AIDS - the largest commitment by any nation to combat a single disease in history. PEPFAR works in partnership with host nations to support treatment for infected people, prevention of new infections and care for  people, including orphans and vulnerable children.

Raith Foundation
The purpose of the RAITH Foundation is to enrich lives within communities through supporting those who provide resources, services and related research that meet practical human needs and shift the quality of relations between people.

SA National Department of Health
The mission of the SA DoH is to consolidate and build on the achievements of the past five years in improving access to health care for all and reducing inequity, and to focus on working in partnership with other stakeholders to improve the quality of care of all levels of the health system, especially preventive and promotive health, and to improve the overall efficiency of the health care delivery system.

South African TB HIV Training (SATBAT)
The South African TB HIV Training (SATBAT) is a HIV TB research training initiative that provides funding opportunities to people affiliated with South African research institutions and to South African government employees. The purpose of the organisation is to improve TB research in South Africa. SATBAT is involved in both improving the understanding of research outputs as well as undertaking research.


UK Department for International Development (DFID)
DFID is the part of the UK government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty.Halting the spread of the disease in developing countries, and providing life-saving care to the millions in those countries living with HIV and AIDS, is one of DFID's fundamental goals.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
USAID is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State. Their Work supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances U.S. foreign policy objectives by supporting economic growth, agriculture and trade, global health and democracy, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Through its teaching, research and engagement, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill serves as an educational and economic beacon for the people of North Carolina and beyond.

Vodacom Foundation
Vodacom is a leading African communications group providing a wide range of communications products and services in South Africa, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho and Mozambique.

Wellcome Trust
The Wellcome Trust is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. Established in 1936 and with an endowment of around £13 billion, it is the UK's largest non-governmental source of funds for biomedical research.


World Health Organisation
WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
