PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to implement and maintain operational procedures for a clinical trial pharmacy for the RHRU.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- To carry out pharmacy related trial duties in several clinical trials in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards
- To ensure that investigational study drug and non investigational drugs are received appropriately according to sponsor/study requirements and any drugs received from any other pharmacy are appropriately tracked and received
- To liaise with local drug suppliers during ordering of study related medication
- To conduct drug inventories accurately such that the information is easily accessible for re-ordering from suppliers and for trial reporting
- To counsel participants on the proper use of the drugs that they are taking, and stress the importance of compliance to the recommended regimens per protocol
- Meet with sponsor/study personnel at study initiation, and regulatory personnel at any monitoring/auditing visit(s)
- Assist the Pharmacist of Record in drafting, maintenance and implementation of the Pharmacy plan per each study guideline
- Serve as a back-up to the PoR in the event the PoR is unavailable
- Participate in study related conference calls as required
- RESEARCH DUTIES:
- To collect and/or monitor the quality of clinical data captured, and provide written progress reports where required
- Monitor Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and GPP requirements and implement these requirements.
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are appropriately created and adapted for use in each study as required, followed and revised as required if needed.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree
- Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer literacy
- Demonstrated, strong administrative skills
- Experience in retail and/or hospital pharmacy
- Experience in clinical trials/research studies, and Good Clinical Practice, or in the field of sexual and reproductive health and/or women’s health will be an advantage
- A valid driver’s licence
