 WRHI on the radio

Tshireletso Health Talks

The WRHI Research Programme Cluster has used local radio as a form of community engagement since 2004. Initially, the Research Programmes aired on both Thetha FM in Orange Farm and Jozi FM in Soweto. The Thetha FM contract has since ended and therefore the Programmes airs only on Jozi FM weekly on Tuesday mornings. Jozi FM is a community radio show that caters to the working class of Johannesburg. The listener base is about 513 000 people in the 16-49 age group (55% Male / 45% Female).

The radio was initially used to advertise our studies and clinic sites for trial recruitment and retention. In late 2008, an evaluation was conducted at the Soweto site to determine how participants had heard about our study. The positive results of this evaluation lead to the formation of a radio committee that set new objectives for the show: to promote dialogue and understanding about clinical trial research & to reduce misconceptions about research & science.

Tune into “Tshireletso Health Talk” on Tuesday mornings from 9h30-10h00!
